Planning permission granted for new care home and apartments

We are delighted to confirm that planning permission has been granted for the development of 100 luxury retirement apartments with associated care and communal facilities including a restaurant, and a residential care home in Halesworth, east Suffolk.

The apartments and care home are to be built on the site of the former Halesworth Middle School on Norwich Road in the village and will provide much-needed accommodation for the community of Halesworth and the surrounding area.

Designed by architects Feilden & Mawson, the one and two bedded apartments will be built in two phases, with spacious, accessible accommodation, large courtyard gardens and planting beds for residents to use for their own garden, with accompanying communal areas.

At the heart of the site will be a central plaza, linking the apartments which will be used for community events. The whole site will be sensitive to environmental aspects, using sustainable rain gardens which will be used for irrigation of the site, creating a natural feel to all areas.

The state-of the-art care home will provide care and support for up to 54 people, innovatively designed in 6 self-contained areas with 9 bedrooms. Short and full-time residential care will be provided, including support for people living with dementia. The home will also have a range of communal living areas, dining rooms, administration areas, on-site staff accommodation as well as a dedicated Training centre, where staff will be offered learning and development opportunities.

Landscaping at the care home will be sympathetic to the landscape and there will be private terraces for residents, extensive walkways, seating areas and raised beds with sensory plants and flowers, creating peaceful, relaxing spaces for residents and their families to sit and enjoy the surroundings.

The new care home and apartments are expected to bring over 100 job opportunities to the local area with the first residents occupying late summer of 2023.

Dr Sanjay Kaushal, director of Castlemeadow Care expressed his delight at the news:

“This is fabulous news for us and for the people of Halesworth. The care home and the apartments will bring much needed accommodation and support to people, and we are committed to creating a beautiful care home and luxury apartments in a natural and relaxing setting.

“These are exciting times for Castlemeadow Care. The Covid pandemic has brought significant challenges to the care sector, but we are determined to look forward and be at the forefront of social care. We are committed to inspiring and transforming lives and supporting those who live with us. Creating Special Moments for both our staff and residents sits at the very heart of what we do. We look forward to meeting and working with the people of Halesworth to bring our vision to life and welcoming them to our new community in the heart of our new care village.”
